Park Warden, Full Time

Wellington Country Park are looking for an energetic, friendly, committed and enthusiastic person to join our small grounds and maintenance team.

Hours of Work: We are a 7 day operation and you will be working 8am - 5pm, 5 days out of 7, working at least one weekend in three.

This position involves working outdoors year-round, in a variety of weather conditions

Rate of Pay: £27,000 per annum

As part of the team:

  • You will play your role in helping us to continue to maintain the very high standards we have already achieved, but also to play your part in the continuing development of the Park as a whole, to ensure all of our visitors to the Park have the best ‘family day out’ experience around.

With direct contact with visitors in the Park, you have to be presentable, approachable and able to communicate with the general public.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

A Park Warden plays a vital, hands-on role in keeping the park safe, welcoming, and well-maintained for visitors. This is a practical and varied position that combines grounds maintenance, basic repairs, and facility oversight.

After preparing the Park in readiness for the day, ensuring play areas are presentable and safe to use, litter picked and bins emptied, a host of other varied tasks will arise.

Day-to-day responsibilities include maintaining the Park’s appearance through tasks such as mowing grass, strimming pathways, and carrying out painting work to keep structures and features in good condition. The role also involves fixing and maintaining Park equipment, undertaking
minor joinery repairs, and ensuring all facilities are functional and presentable.

The Park Warden is responsible for practical problem-solving, such as unblocking drains and addressing general wear and tear across the site. They also monitor key areas like the Splash Zone to ensure safe usage and respond quickly to any issues that arise.

A strong focus on health and safety is essential, with regular checks carried out across the Park to identify hazards, ensure compliance with regulations, and maintain a safe environment for visitors and staff alike. This role requires a proactive, reliable individual with a broad range of practical skills, a good understanding of maintenance work, and a commitment to maintaining high standards in a public space.

Experience preferred but not essential:

  • Experience in use of Hand Blower, Strimmer and Hedge Strimmer
  • An ability to use a varied sort of machinery e.g., mule, dumper, chainsaw etc would be an advantage, although not essential
  • Some knowledge or interest in general grounds maintenance will be required
  • Basic handyman skills
  • DBS check will be required upon starting
